About the Artist

Tanya Miao Sun is an artist based in the U.S., working through painting and, increasingly, dance as parallel and intersecting languages. Her practice probes the shifting borders of art - between philosophy and gesture, presence and disappearance, system and absurdity.
Her work is informed by deep engagement with art philosophy and experimental traditions, drawing from sources as varied as Japanese Wabi-Sabi and contemporary theories of performance. Rather than seeking resolution, she explores art as an open system: self-creating, self-erasing, resisting permanence.
Recent projects have begun to incorporate dance as an extension of painting, treating the body itself as a mark, a trace, and a site of inquiry. This evolving dimension reflects her ongoing pursuit of art as a lived philosophy rather than a fixed form.
Her works have been exhibited in New York and Los Angeles, and she has received recognition including the Ruth Estes Bissiri Memorial Scholarship (Los Angeles) and the 149th Merit Scholarship of the Art Students League (New York).
